These encompass an exploration of classical literature through lines, texture, and color. The prominent symbols in each work were featured: Allie's baseball in The Catcher in the Rye, the Joads' jalopy in The Grapes of Wrath, and Desdemona's handkerchief in Othello. In others, depicted elements are representative of themes: overlapping bomber planes for Catch-22's inescapability, a three-jeweled crown for Macbeth's ambition, spurred by the witches. In 2019, I submitted my version of a Life of Pi cover to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, and was granted a National Silver Key. The heavy use of blues and oranges accentuates the thematic contrast between the costs of humanity and survival.
